CSO participated AstroDay 2008.
CSO's booth was located on one of the busiest spots
in the Prince Kuhio Plaza mall. This year, we had three projects
at the CSO booth; (1) Art
project to make a CSO windsocks, (2) Space and Time project that uses a
remote control
car that has a time delay, and (3) Radio telescope demonstration
project. In addition, we
had an entry box to win CSO T shirt and CSO bag. Almost four
hundred kids made their own
CSO windsocks and 120 people entered to win the CSO T shirt and CSO
bag. Lots of
kids
enjoyed playing with a remote control car and understoold that there is
a time delay when we
control robots in space, like robots on Mars or on the Moon. For
the 1.2m-diameter parabolic
radio dish demonstration, by dropping a ping-pong ball down on the good
surface of the dish
which sat against the gravity, kids learned the ball was bounced up at
the focus position always.
The parabolic dish was donated by the Oceanic Time Warner Cable located
in Hilo. We are
so grateful for their warm hearted donation and their support for our
public educational outreach
efforts. Followings show some of the picture of the AstroDay 2008
at the CSO booth.
