Riley Ceria, a staff
member at CSO, has been strongly supporting the robotics program at
Waiakea High School (WHS) since 2006.
Riley spends about three hours per week to teach Robotics at Waiakea
High. The team, led by their teacher Dale Olive (crouching in
front of the robot "Stitch III"), worked very hard with
Riley. FIRST
Robotics Competition (FRC) teaches students the various steps in
creating a robot with a specified mission.
Students can learn a wide range of skills including mechanics,
electronics, programming, team skills, management, and much more.
First they played at a regional competition at Sillicon
Valley where they were awarded the Rookie All Star Award, earning them
a position at the national competition. Their ranking was 22nd
out of 48 teams. At the national competition, the team played in
the Gallileo division, ranking 24th out of 86 teams. WHS, that
was supported by CSO and HELCO, did extremely well competing against
teams that were sponsored and mentored by companies such as Lockheed
Martin, GM, Ford, Google, BP, Xerox, Northrop Grumman, and many other
large companies.
