Extremelyluminous high redshift ( z > 1)
galaxies surveyed with
Bolocam at
1.1 mm
Bolocam, 1.1 mm
camera, made a new deep survey towards distant galaxies. This is
a map of a tenth of a square degree. At 1.1mm, the camera is
sensitive to dust in those distant galaxies heated by stars forming
deep inside clouds of molecular gas. The bright white spots with
circles around them are the galaxies detected. The result was
published by Laurent
et al. 2005 in Astrophysical Journal.
Figure 1. Bolocam map of the Lockman Hole East. The
uniform, high-coverage region of the map is the
inner 324 arcmin2. The 17 Bolocam sources detected
at >3 are indicated by thick circles.
The bright spot at +8, -8 is not listed
as a detection because it falls outside of the
uniform coverage region (black contour).
